About the Role

Patrick Sprack Limited is currently seeking a Mine Ventilation Operations Manager to lead and oversee mine ventilation operations.

This senior leadership role is responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of mine ventilation systems and related activities. The successful candidate will lead ventilation personnel, manage projects and budgets, and work closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, and Technical Services teams to support safe, compliant, and efficient underground mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop mine ventilation personnel.
  • Establish departmental goals, priorities, and key performance indicators.
  • Manage staffing requirements, workforce development, and contractor performance.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with operational, engineering, maintenance, safety, and technical teams.

Ventilation Planning & Management

  • Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-term mine ventilation plans.
  • Coordinate ventilation requirements with mine planning and production schedules.
  • Review mine development layouts and provide ventilation recommendations.
  • Evaluate ventilation requirements for new mining areas, ramps, drifts, shafts, raises, and production levels.
  • Develop strategies for future ventilation infrastructure requirements.
  • Manage underground ventilation infrastructure, including primary and auxiliary fans, ventilation raises, bulkheads, doors, regulators, stoppings, ducting, and monitoring equipment.
  • Monitor airflow distribution and system performance and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Coordinate ventilation infrastructure upgrades and installations.

Technical Services

  • Oversee ventilation surveys, monitoring, and data collection.
  • Review and analyze ventilation measurements and technical reports.
  • Utilize ventilation modelling software to evaluate system performance.
  • Perform ventilation simulations and scenario analyses.
  • Maintain and validate ventilation models based on operational changes.
  • Provide technical recommendations to improve ventilation performance, operational efficiency, and worker safety.

Budget & Project Management

  • Prepare and manage annual departmental budgets.
  • Forecast operational and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor spending and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  • Develop business cases and capital requests for ventilation projects.
  • Manage procurement of ventilation equipment and systems.
  • Oversee ventilation-related projects and contractor performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8–10 years of underground mining experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of mine ventilation experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience leading technical and operational teams.
  • Experience with ventilation design, modelling, and underground environmental management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation preferred.
  • Mine ventilation specialization is considered a strong asset.
